Jak jsme si užili 3 dny s rodilým mluvčím? Nejen o matematice v angličtině.
Ve dnech 28. 29. a 30. května byla na GJO možnost navštívit kurz s anglickým lektorem. Projednávali jsme různá témata jako např. Brexit, matematika v angličtině a jak uspět v byznys světě. Nejzajímavější z těchto témat byl již zmíněný byznys, jelikož i samotný lektor jeden vede, mohl nám tudíž dát rady z první ruky. Na začátku šla konverzace poněkud ztuha, protože se všichni báli promluvit anglicky nahlas k rodilému mluvčí, ale po chvilce se dalo navyknout na lektorovu angličtinu a začít tak mluvit i bez vyvolávání. Celkově si všichni zúčastnění dobře procvičili angličtinu i díky tomu, že se mluvilo mimo komfortní zónu běžné vyučovací hodiny s učitelem angličtiny.

Over the course of three days, from May 29 to 31, students of Jiří Orten Grammar School participated in a daily extracurricular language exercise, lead by Mr. Michael D. Fairweather.
The students had a chance to expand their linguistic capabilities in fields such as mathematics; they were introduced to mathematic terminology and notation in English and immediately put the new vocabulary to use as they could have a go at describing the steps to solve a simultaneous equation using the elimination method. They also engaged in a discussion with the tutor about a wide variety of topics, ranging from the British royal family to Brexit. They further exercised both their English abilities and economic thinking when they had to come up with a project and pitch it to each other or when they were tasked with managing a hypothetical brand of beer products and coming up with clever marketing.
Personally, I believe that the entire experience not only improved our vocabulary but also our overall ability to express ourselves and convey information through this form of communication; and for that, I would like to thank Mr. Fairweather on behalf of all the students present and of the Student Parliament.
